Campaigning by the West Norwood Conservative Action Team as forced Royal Mail onto the back foot over its plans to close the local sorting office without public consultation.
The Action Team wrote to Royal Mail CEO Moya Greene and have received assurances from her office that they are listening to local residents' concerns over their plans, which could see elderly and vulnerable members of the community having to travel as far as Anerley to collect their post.
Responding to the Action Team's campaigning, Royal Mail have confirmed that they are looking into the possibility of establishing a local customer service point in the Post Office.
Royal Mail is now considering this with Post Office Ltd.
The Action Team will continue to press Royal Mail on this, and the future of the Knight's Hill Post Office collection point, until a satisfactory solution is found for local residents.
Conservative parliamentary candidate for Dulwich & West Norwood Rachel Wolf said:
"I'm delighted that Royal Mail has responded to the Norwood Conservatives' campaign: residents, particularly the elderly, clearly need to be able to collect their post. Now we need a full consultation and will continue fighting for local residents."
